Our History

1981

Answer Fort Smith Inc. was established in 1981 in Fort Smith Arkansas. It was located on South “V” St. with less than 10 employees. The business started with a telephone answering service and a paging service. The equipment was basic, consisting only of a 4 line switchboard and requiring the operators to take messages with pen and paper. Despite these challenges, Answer Fort Smith’s hard work and determination began as a strong competitor in the call center and paging industry which would continue to grow and expand in the years to come.

1990s

By the early 1990s, business was booming and required a new location. Answer Fort Smith moved to North “A” St. with two separate buildings to utilize. This property was a larger work environment with room for expansion as business would continue to grow. With a new location came upgrades to modernize the company and this began the computer-based messages. The progression included new software that enabled the operators to answer the phones on the computer, take messages on the computer, and included our paging service to send alpha messages to our answering service and paging clients. The system allowed on-the-spot account management for our clients. This enabled AFS to offer a higher level of service and obtain customers who had more specialized needs, therefore increasing staff and revenue. Many years were spent in the “A” St location where we built long-lasting client relationships and continued growth of our technology, services, and staff.

2005

In 2005, AFS began a new line of business that would quickly become a huge success. Through a new agreement with a customer, we licensed a group of health and life insurance agents and a new division of AFS was born. The department continued to grow and expanded into several states, several carriers, and several new contracts allowing us to be a multi-faceted call center now operating three separate areas of business. The once small and basic answering service had sprung into a rapidly growing full-service call center with the capability of taking on more areas of business, and so we did.

2012

In 2012 we utilized the sales knowledge we had gained with our insurance department and branched out to begin an area of specialized moving. We established a partnership that allowed us to join the moving industry with CSR’s trained in assisting clients with long-distance moves. Although we started off with a small piece of the action, it grew into a large portion of our revenue. Once again, we had increased revenue and staff, and had outgrown our home.

2013

The growth of the business would require a larger facility. Now including an answering service division, paging division, and a 2-part sales division consisting of health insurance along with moving specialists, AFS obtained a larger building. In 2013, our expansion brought us to our newest, largest facility of which we are proud to call home. After a complete renovation and remodel, we moved in and our departments continue to rapidly expand and boost AFS to higher levels of success. Our call center now services over 500 answering service clients and assists in the millions of callers every year with needs ranging from basic messages to moving needs to medical emergencies worldwide.

2021

Now, in 2021, 40 years later, we continue to support our community and clients with our constantly updated technologies and highly trained staff. We helped keep both our local community and communities abroad connected throughout the pandemic, ensuring many community members have access to emergency services and making sure the lines of communication stay open for our clients. We are capable of servicing customers with an ever-increasing array of options and services, and we look forward to tackling any challenges and opportunities the future holds for Answer Fort Smith.
